Workshops
During the conference there will be the opportunity to attend three workshops.
Details below:

Workshop 1 - Work Experience Readiness
Facilitated by Kerry Boffey & Peter Stacey, Adult Learning Improvement Network

This workshop will give Governors, Leaders and Managers the opportunity to see the early research findings from the in-depth analysis of what employers and industry expect and need from the Further Education and Training Sector to be able and willing to provide meaningful work experience. The recent increased inspection focus on Governance means that leaders and managers need more information and data to provide greater insight and enable more effective scrutiny of their provision. The workshop will provide up to date information about the importance of work experience planning, preparation and readiness. It will also share examples of good practice and provide essential intelligence from the research with hints and tips on how to improve the approach to providing high quality work experience for learners.
Workshop 2 - Developing Individualised Study Programmes
Facilitated by Joanne Park, Portsmouth University

One of the core responsibilities of educational organisations is to develop their learners' knowledge and skills so that they are successful in their studies and able to progress onto either further study or employment. In order to effectively support learners in meeting their potential, we must ensure their curriculum is individualised; this involves knowing each learner's needs and ambitions. This can present both financial and logistical challenges.

This workshop draws on research and sets out the expectations of key stakeholders within further education and training sector. It reviews the expectations of ensuring each learner's study programme are tailored to their needs. Furthermore, it provides senior managers and governors with a potential solution in enabling their organisation to establish there individual learner skills need and shaping delivery to meet those needs.

This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to explore some of the key messages coming from a number of Feasibility Studies engaged by AELP, 157 Group and IOE on 16-19 Study Programmes with a focus on English and mathematics. Messages explored with be associated with the leadership and management of English and mathematics delivery. Participants will also be introduced to the wider programme of Continuing Professional Development opportunities to be provided nationwide in February and March 2016 and the use of the 16-19 Study Programme Guide to support English and mathematics.
